If you think it makes you feel superior youre deluded

OK normally I would apologise for the forthcoming rant but I see no reason to apologise and would be happy to engage in the debate directly with anyone who wants to…

Lately I have been growing more and more concerned at the moral stance taken by certain agencies and names in the SEO industry and I feel that a rebuttal is in order.

The thing that tipped me over the edge was http://ratoutyourcompetitor.com/ (No im not linking that – partially as I dont want to but more because I would suggest some people may throw some links at that site that could be dodgy)

This “im white and your evil” crap has really started to get to me, who the hell are you to set the moral agenda. Simply following what you consider is gospel handed down from Google isnt SEO and messing with peoples livelihood as a result of your opinions is foolish, short sighted and more morally corrupt than the ‘problem’ it claims to address.

I have also seen a number of agencies spouting that they have a no link buying policy and advising others against that practice. Whilst I completely understand why agencies might have the public stance of not doing anything that goes against the Google guidelines I feel insulted and disappointed if they extend that as a moral position.

Picture if you will two companies, an agency that doesn’t buy links or do any manipulation and a company that buys links in a responsible way whilst informing the client of the risk/reward of any tactic.

The agency claims the moral high ground (Morals set by Google, why the hell we should care what they state I have no idea). They squeeze their monthly fee from the client whilst breeding fear within the client that any slip might cause complete removal. Its a tactic of the corporate leech, pulling every penny they can for the minimum return on the expectation of long term results.

The company buying links on the other hand often states up front what the risk/reward is and helps build a case to justify any risk. Without risk in many industries clients simply will not compete and no amount of good content and wishful thinking will change that fact.
The link builder delivers results and value, value that can be measured.

Who is the morally bankrupt in those opposing positions? I know where I sit.

If you promote the site mentioned in this post, I wouldn’t tell me. You are likely to lose my respect….

Seeing who’s the site owner, I am somehow not surprised. Anyways, seeing how quick Google is nowadays to act on spam reports and how their whole algo seems to rely on them, why even bother running a site like that if any loser incapable of achieving rankings by proper methods can report his competitors directly to Google.
